Find the reason your wet underfloor heating is not working properly
Cold rooms, uneven temperatures and unresponsive zones can have several possible causes. Bumfords diagnoses suitable wet, water-based UFH systems across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and surrounding areas—including systems installed by other companies.
A cold floor does not identify the faulty component
A thermostat that appears inactive could be caused by controls, wiring, an actuator or a wider demand problem. A manifold with low flow might relate to balancing, circulation, air, the pump, water quality or the heat source.
We therefore begin with the symptoms and system arrangement. Where the enquiry is suitable, the engineer can inspect the accessible components, test operation and explain whether adjustment, repair, replacement parts or further investigation is required.
Problems we can assess
One area stays cold
A single cold zone may involve its thermostat, actuator, flow setting, circuit or local control signal.
Uneven or slow heating
Flow temperatures, balancing, floor construction, system condition and heat loss may all influence performance.
Actuator or flow problems
Actuators, valves, flow indicators and manifold settings need to be considered with the controls and circulation.
Pump or air problems
Noise, poor circulation or variable performance may require checks around the pump, air and system hydraulics.
Thermostat or zoning faults
The thermostat, wiring centre, actuator response and heat-source demand must work together correctly.
Pressure loss or suspected leak
Repeated pressure loss or signs of water require careful assessment. Tell us immediately if water is actively escaping.
The manifold is important—but it is not the whole system
Controls and demand
Does the thermostat call for heat, does the wiring centre respond and do the appropriate actuators open?
Flow and circulation
Are the pump, valves, flow indications, temperatures and accessible circuits behaving as expected?
Heat source and system condition
Is the boiler or heat pump supplying the system correctly, and is there evidence that water quality or contamination may be contributing?
Limited paperwork does not always prevent investigation
Underfloor heating is often hidden beneath finished floors, and the original installer may no longer be available. Photographs, labels and an accurate description help us understand the system before visiting.
We cannot promise that every concealed fault or obsolete system will be repairable during the first appointment. We can, however, assess suitable enquiries, explain what can be established and identify a practical next step.

Frequently asked questions
Does Bumfords repair electric underfloor heating?
No. We diagnose and repair wet, water-based underfloor-heating systems only.
Can you repair a system installed by somebody else?
Often, yes. Send photographs, symptoms and any available documentation first so we can assess whether the system and enquiry are suitable.
Can you tell what is wrong from a photograph?
Photographs help identify components and plan the appointment, but many faults require testing on site. We avoid promising a diagnosis from images alone.
Does a cold zone mean the actuator has failed?
Not necessarily. The thermostat, wiring centre, actuator, valve, flow, circulation and circuit can all be relevant. Diagnosis should come before replacement.
Will powerflushing fix poor UFH performance?
Only when system condition is genuinely contributing. Cold floors may instead involve controls, balancing, circulation, temperature or component faults.
Can every repair be completed in one visit?
No. Some faults need parts, further investigation or additional work. Obsolete components and concealed pipework may also limit what can be completed immediately.
What should I do if water is actively leaking?
Contact the office and clearly report an active leak. If safe and you know how, isolate the relevant water or heating supply and protect the property while awaiting assistance.
Which areas do you cover?
Our core area includes Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and surrounding South Yorkshire communities, with suitable work also considered in nearby areas.
Send us the wet-UFH fault details
Confirm the system is water-based and attach clear photographs of the manifold, pump, thermostats and controls. Describe exactly which zones are affected.
