Accreditations and competence
Appropriate qualifications for the work being undertaken
Heating, gas, oil and air-conditioning work can require different registrations and technical competence. Bumfords checks the requirement first and allocates suitable work to appropriately qualified personnel.
More than a row of logos
What matters is whether the registration fits the job
Customers are often presented with several trade badges without any explanation of what they mean. A gas appliance, oil boiler, refrigerant circuit and wet heating system involve different risks, regulations and technical skills.
Bumfords asks about the equipment and intended work before confirming an appointment. Where relevant, we check the make, model, fuel, approximate age and required outcome so the enquiry can be directed appropriately.
Registration and manufacturer relationships support competent work, but they do not replace a proper assessment of the individual property or system.
Registrations and relationships
Understanding the Bumfords credentials
Gas Safe Register
Gas businesses must be registered and engineers must be competent for the categories of gas work they undertake. Bumfords’ Gas Safe registration number is 13364.
The proposed appliance and work category should be checked—not simply whether a business appears on the register.

OFTEC registration
OFTEC operates competent-person registration for technicians working with oil and other heating technologies. Relevant Bumfords oil work is allocated according to the appliance and work category required.
Oil-boiler servicing, repair, replacement and associated equipment should be discussed before booking.

F-Gas certification
Work involving fluorinated refrigerants must be undertaken by personnel and businesses holding the certification applicable to that activity.
This is relevant to suitable air-conditioning installation, servicing and repair work. Certification is only one part of specifying the right system for the building.

Worcester Bosch Accredited Partner
Bumfords’ relationship with Worcester Bosch supports product knowledge, training and access to relevant manufacturer information for suitable Worcester heating and air-conditioning enquiries.
Accredited status does not remove the need to assess system design, controls, installation conditions and the customer’s actual requirement.

Common questions
Accreditations and competence FAQs
What is Bumfords’ Gas Safe registration number?
Bumfords’ Gas Safe registration number is 13364. Customers should also check that the individual engineer is qualified for the category of gas work required.
Is every Bumfords engineer qualified for every service?
No. Different appliances, fuels, refrigerants and tasks require different competence. Bumfords reviews the enquiry and allocates suitable work to appropriately qualified personnel.
What does OFTEC registration relate to?
OFTEC operates competent-person registration covering oil and other heating technologies. The appliance and proposed work should be identified before an oil-heating appointment is confirmed.
Why is F-Gas certification relevant to air conditioning?
Many air-conditioning systems contain fluorinated refrigerants. Work involving those refrigerants must be completed by personnel and businesses holding certification applicable to the activity.
Does manufacturer accreditation guarantee suitability?
No. Manufacturer accreditation supports training and product knowledge, but system design, property requirements, controls and installation conditions must still be assessed.
Can I verify Bumfords independently?
Yes. Customers can use the relevant registration bodies and the Bumfords Which? Trusted Traders profile. Ask us which registration is relevant to your proposed work.
